| My Dying Bride – 20 Years On |
|
2010 marks the 20th anniversary of My Dying Bride.
To commemorate two decades of doom and gloom, the band embarked upon a project to re-work familiar melodies and themes from My Dying Bride's extensive catalogue into long, flowing symphonic compositions, including new vocals and passages from vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe. These arrangements have been brought to life, in cooperation with keyboard maestro Johnny Maudling (of Bal-Sagoth fame), and will be released as ‘Evinta’ this fall on Peaceville Records.

As part of the ongoing celebration of their 20th anniversary, Sweden's Opeth is releasing live footage and audio from the band's recent performance at London's famed Royal Albert Hall. In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, due out 21st September, is a fierce testament to Opeth's continued success in the progressive metal community.
Twenty years and nine records into their legendary career, Opeth's "progressively creative spirit" (ARTISTdirect) remains unwavering, propelling the band through the "Evolution XX: An Opeth Anthology" tour, which brought the Swedish titans to six of the world's most unique venues, and now, with the release of In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, into the homes of their fans.
The performance at the Royal Albert Hall (recorded on the 5th April, 2010) includes two sets, the first consisting of the band performing 2000’s now-classic, breakthrough epic, Blackwater Park in its entirety, and the second, a chronologically arranged selection of material from the rest of Opeth's extensive catalogue, totalling almost three hours of music. It is, like the rest of Opeth's greatest work, "purposefully warped in all the right places" (Decibel).
Thinking back to the concert, frontman Mikael Akerfeldt says "Opeth had a magical night playing the Royal Albert Hall. It was a dream come true, and now afterwards, it still feels like a dream. We got it all on film, and this, our third live recording and DVD might be my personal favourite. One couldn't help to think of all the fantastic artists that played there over the years. Looking back at this night of celebration brings me fond memories of our 20th anniversary—this package is the delayed birthday present. Enjoy!"

Florida-based death metal veterans MORBID ANGEL entered Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida with engineer Erik Rutan (former MORBID ANGEL guitarist and producer for such bands as CANNIBAL CORPSE, MISERY INDEX and GOATWHORE) to begin recording their ninth full-length album. Due late 2010, early 2011 via Season Of Mist, the new CD will be the band's first to be recorded without longtime drummer Pedro "Pete" Sandoval, who recently underwent back surgery for a deteriorating disc problem. Filling in for him on a temporary basis is Tim Yeung, who has previously played with DIVINE HERESY, ALL THAT REMAINS, NILE, HATE ETERNAL and VITAL REMAINS).
MORBID ANGEL guitarist Trey Azagthoth last year spoke to Revolver magazine about the band's upcoming album, which will mark the Florida-based group's first release to feature bassist/vocalist David Vincent since 1995's "Domination".
"We played the new song 'Nevemore' on the last tour and that kind of shows where our heads are at," he said. "I'd say it's like an assemblage of all sorts of stuff from the catalog and some new influences. I listen to a lot of hardcore [techno] music now — the f**kin' serious, artistic stuff, not that crap you hear at the clubs. That stuff has impact and it's really extreme. Even if there's no guitar in it or no real drums, the energy coming out of the speakers is amazing." He added, "All I can say is, when it's ready, it's going to be extreme and outside the box. And, hopefully, the songs will inspire people to look deeper inside themselves for 'the stuff' and to tap that potential that we as human beings have."
Although MORBID ANGEL has yet to announce a title for the new CD, its name will likely begin with the letter "I", in keeping with the band's tradition of titling their albums in alphabetical order beginning with 1989's "Altars of Madness", and continuing through "Heretic".

BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD are coming back. The move to resurrect the hugely popular 1990s animated anti-heroes has been rumoured for several days. But yesterday, sources at MTV confirmed that a new batch of Beavis And Butt-head episodes are in the works. The show's minimalist animated style is also expected to remain intact. The two characters' lives revolve around watching TV and eating nachos. Beavis typically wears a blue METALLICA t-shirt, while Butt-head is usually seen wearing a grey AC/DC T-shirt. The return of Beavis And Butt-Head will be a backdoor means for MTV to return to showing music videos - something the network was founded upon but abandoned in the last decade. Series creator Mike Judge, who's also creating the new episodes, voiced both characters. MTV officials had no comment yesterday. Judge is "not commenting at this time," his publicist said.

According to the band's webmaster, "the drums and most of the rhythm guitars are all recorded. At the moment, they are fine-tuning the lyrics and melodies, during which time Russ [Allen] will also be recording his vocals.
Jason Rullo of North America's progressive metal gods SYMPHONY X is scheduled to enter the studio to begin laying down the drum tracks for the band's next studio album, tentatively due mid-2010 via their new record label, Nuclear Blast Records.
SYMPHONY X guitarist Michael Romeo previously stated about the group's new material, "We have over an hour of really good stuff that we really dig; there's more than enough stuff there that we can choose the best songs to go on the CD... but all of the songs are really strong. One is shaping up to be 10 minutes plus.
"I think everyone will like it," Romeo concluded. "It has a little bit of everything."
On 4th November, 2008, InsideOut Music released a special 5.1 edition of SYMPHONY X's critically acclaimed album "Paradise Lost". The double-disc package includes a DVD 5.1 mix by Jens Bogren of the entire album as well as two enhanced HD videos for "Set the World on Fire" and "Serpent's Kiss".

| Embryonic Devourment Album Details |
|
The cover artwork for "Vivid Enterpretations Of The Void", the forthcoming second full-length album from the California technical death/grind four-piece EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT, can be viewed online.
Commented EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT bassist/vocalist Austin Spence: "I have admired Remy's [Cuveillier] work over the years and feel he has the best artistic vision for the overall theme of this release. He has a very abstract style which is also how we like to think of our music."
"Vivid Interpretations Of The Void" will be released later in the year on Deepsend Records. The follow-up to 2007's "Fear of Reality Exceeds Fantasy", is based on the Reptilian Agenda, a theory researched, written and spoken about extensively by British author/reporter/former pro football player David Icke for well over a decade. The disc was recorded and engineered by ANOMALOUS guitarist Nate Vennarucci and was mixed and mastered by VILE's Colin Davis at Imperial Studios.
