Annoucement.

Well im sad (well, kind of a mixture of sad and happy really) to annouce that me and mark will be leaving HMR. Forever.

Not gonna go into much detail about it, you probably all already know why. HMR is a shadow of its former self and i just cant take what happens here on a daily basis anymore. Also, the Admins obviously don´t seem to care about what happens here, nothing is done to fix this station and the lack of an actual METAL community dosent help. The repeated requests (some songs get requested multiple times per day), LONG songs that you should not be able to resquet all the time, non metal material that gets played and worse: requested and that does not get removed from the database and members that do not seem to know that this is supposed to be a metal station, all of this slowly killed this station.
Since a particular member said that we should move on and leave, it is exactly what were are going to do. We will probably be moving to ChroniX Radio but we still don´t know. Keep in mind that i do not HATE any member of this station, i just think that it is not being run well and some people just dont seem to like metal at all or dont care enought to request it. HMR used to be fun, it´s not anymore.

Bye.

(btw, sorry Karin, but you know this would happen sooner or later.)

Tru

I fully agree and I would like to add to what he said for everyone.

there is no hatred inferred, just complete annoyance. This is meant to be a METAL station and very little metal is played. Too many request the same old, same old predictable stuff, and as he said a certain respected member said we should leave.

This station is regressing as the admins do nothing about it. This is NOT a heavy metal station anymore. It is primarily an industrial, ambient, pop rock joke of a station.

Tru and I are the only ones that want metal, and the new member Packman77.

It is PATHETIC!

We are going to go onto a PROPER metal station - nobody ever listens to us just derides us.

I am sorry it has come to this but I wish you well in your pop venture.

Mark.

disappointing, but not surprising

Thats too bad gents. I for one absolutely consider myself a true metalhead. I've made mention before that I hosted a celestial heavy metal radio show, all be it many many moons ago. I personally think you have a very narrow definition of metal. That said, I agree that there is a lot of fill here, but I can take the good with the bad. I tried chronix, it was decent, but if you think you heard alot of the same songs here, wait til you see their miniscule library. You'll have heard every single song in about a month and a half.

I hope to hell I was not the respected member whose advice you are taking. If for no other reason that I don't consider myself, nor even want to be respected. My opinion is just like everyone elses, an opinion. An opinions are like assholes, everybodys got one, and they all stink!!

No hard feelings here. I may be an over opinionated jackass who loves to argue and speak his mind, but it's never personal for me either. I hope you find what you are seeking, but if not, c'mon back. Either way, I hope you don't entirely abandon HMR. You both have made time spent here entertaining, and your presence will be missed.

Take care, until we thrash again...

Mark & Tru -

I'm very sorry that your experience on HMR wasn't all that you would have liked it to be. As one of the admins here, I realized long ago that this site cant satisfy everyone's tastes all the time, nor do we try to. You have well defined tastes in music and are very sure of your opinions. I was that way once as well, that's why I started HMR.

I wish you the best of luck in your search for an radio station that meets your approval. If you do find that the grass seemed greener on the other side of the fence and find yourself missing HMR, you're always welcome back here, no questions asked.

Take care,
M)

I guess I should come out and say: I was the member who suggested that "metal purists" leave. I said so in the forum TruG0d and markdvdman started against Double Tuesdays.

I'm not trying to be a smartass here (or on that forum), it just seems that you guys would be happier without everyone else's musical tastes dragging you down. I say metal purist not in any insulting way - but as you've said, HMR has gone beyond that (or any) strict genre. To me, that's what makes it great; to you that's what makes it annoying. I love thrash, but if I listened to thrash all the time, I'd get sick of it quick.

I'm not happy to see you leave, but I am happy for you, since you are unhappy here. And Mark, thank you for calling me a "respected" member. A long time ago, you told me you considered me an online friend even though all we ever do is argue with each other. But until I read about my being respected, it never occurred to me that I was a true part of this community.

To further what TheDestroyer said - as the Dainty Bride said to the Carpenter in the (ahem) Primus song, "The grass is never greener on the other side."

Hold on, guys! I already see two HMR members considering them as respected. And why the two of them? Why only them? Which one of them made the two people leave HMR?
None!
I think both TruGod and Markdvdman are big enough for their own decisions. It is their decision to leave this radio station and I wish them all the best.
For me, HMR is more than take it literally that is only heavy metal music. Even when bands I don't like are played I expand my horizons and this is why makes this radio great in the first place. Then, on this radio station I'm discovering new bands that I like every day.
So...even if some people are upset with that, I am happy this radio exists as it is.

Wish you all the best TruGod and Markdvdman. Let's talk more about this in... 10 - 15 years from now.

Bye!

Just read all the post and I find this very sad. HMR has been back on line five minutes and all this happened. Personally I am not a great lover of growling and screaming. But it is not possible to like everything. Yes I like to request long song from time to time and yes I have requested some song more than once. Why, because I like them!
At the end of the day you have got to be able to put a bit of water in your wine unless you want to start your own radio station. Personally I think that HMR cater for several taste of music and that is why I like it. There is a “little” community that is why I also like HMR….It can be good fun especially when someone request Esoteric  (Joke)
At the end of the day Extremism is never good. The other thing is that it is not possible to please everyone. Trust me I know this….I see it every day in my restaurant. Before I would take criticisms at heart but now I am more like “If you don`t like it well go somewhere else” and trust me I do not lose sleep other it anymore. I also know that it is very difficult to say something in writing and that in a perfect world it would be better to be round a table with a beer in hand to talk about things like this. But unfortunately this is not possible as most of the members of HMR are from all other the world…..
Well, I still think that all this is very sad and I am sorry to see the Welshman going…
Best wishes everyone

Looks like it's the same old discussion starting all the time on every heavy metal radio/board/forum/magazine...

I don't think that HMR is just a shadow of itself, because the songs played are a mixture of requests and an "injection" from the radio system between the requests. But all in all it's still rockin'.
I followed many discussions about "heavy metal" and even in some magazines, heavy metal was called dead. Some agreed and left, but that was ten years (or even more) ago. But metal still coming out of the cds, radios and magazines.
Look at the festivals growing bigger and bigger i.e Wacken Open Air in Germany.

Leaving HMR with arguments like "long songs are able to be requested" or "non-metal material played" shows the narrow path you are walking.
What is a "long song"? Five minutes? Seven minutes? Look at metallica's "Justice for all", it's more than seven minutes, metallica's "orion" - more than 8 minutes or look at Running Wild's "Treasure Island" - more than 10 Minutes.
But the songs are still heavy and we like them.
And what about the "non-metal material"? Metal didn't stuck in the 80s. Metal developed and split up into several categories, like a big fork ;)
So who can say what is metal and what is not? I think we all should be tolerate other meanings of what is "metal".

But just my opinion...i will stay in here - even if you don't notice me. I am used to that ;)

I am not back here but I have to make a comment.

It is nonsensical beyond belief what you are saying.

This is meant to be HEAVY METAL!!!

Not nest and other forms of music.

Are you really that deluded? Do you believe this REALLY caters for heavy metal?

No it DOES NOT!!!

Black metal is a joke it is not metal (I mean not what is on here slow long doom rubbish)!!!

Guys I used to respect you but you are self deluded and enclosed in 80s nonsensical dogma and all music is ok in a METAL radio station!!!

Also, the regulars requesting the same thing all the time is tedious and must turn off youngsters becoming regulars!

I keep in contact with Tru and we listen to metal all the time not nest and industrial, doom, black, slow 50 min junk!!!

Wake up and see that you are staying in the 80s!

Remember this is meant to be METAL!!!!!!

I am so disappointed in the attidude by the regulars.

As Marc say stays, stay heavy, stay metal.

Errr where???????

#12

We are all stuck in the 80s?

This coming from a guy who constantly requests Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Sepultura, Gamma Ray...

And if black metal is your idea of a joke, I'd hate to see your stand-up routine. Psychostick is a joke; Arnocorps is a joke; that's why their genre is Comedy Metal.

If you want to believe that we are the deluded ones because we hear different kinds of songs every day instead of similar sounding classic metal...I believe you have an appointment with a mirror.

Actually, Marc says: "Stay Heavy and Stay Tuned..."

Obviously 'heavy metal' means different things to different people. For some (unenlightened) people Death, Black and Industrial music is too heavy to be considered 'metal'... so they reject it has not being 'heavy metal' even though stylistically they are certainly sub-genres of heavy metal.

Mark (and Tru) - When I made my previous comments about you being welcome back here, it was not my intent that this would be so that you could come back to belittle others or their opinions or to be hostile.

Please enjoy the world outside HMR... it is wide and varied enought where even you will eventually find a place you can call home.

Stay Heavy. Stay Tuned
