star rating barometer
Time to re-visit this and get some points of view from the newer members...
so what is your criteria for your star ratings based upon??
I use the following scale:
1 star: virtually unlistenable; how was this ever recorded? (ie: dopesmoker)
2 stars: not my cup of tea; why is it here?; (machiney drumming, is it metal? I have a pretty broad definition of metal, but for me, most of the overly melodic stuff and death with that drumming)
3 stars: decent, probably not on the ipod, but I wouldnt change the station either. (most songs get a 3 from me)
4 stars: ipod worthy; something I would like to hear again (most classic metal, and intrigueing new stuff)
5 stars: classic or destined to be so, but not necessarily older; something that grabbed me (and I know alot of obscure stuff from the 80s and 90s that rate it) likely already on the ipod.
I try to rate every song individually. Not based upon their name, genre, a few notes, or my mood. I give it a fair listen and then rate. And I often have a change of heart, good or bad, upon a second playing and change my rating.
So what are your ratings based on?? ssH8
